Healthy and thriving communities
We want to enable vibrant and sustainable communities in countries where employment and food security are greater needs. With global and local partners we work together using sustainable farming methods, vocational training and entrepreneurship.
To make a change, we as Global Food Garden have focused on cooperation, meaning to work together as a network, bringing in expertise from many different fields connected to food production and processing, entrepreneurship and training. Together we have focused on:
Local partners
Global Food Garden identifies and trains local entrepreneurs who have a vision, but also the capacity large enough to aspire for change in their region, their country, and even their entire continent. Our local partners are native entrepreneurs who built successful business activities in their respective countries on their own initiative, strength and financial resources. They emphasize on training young people, often coming from a poverty background. Our local partners are locally rooted, have worked faithfully on their projects for years and have experience in vegetable cultivation.
Network
Global Food Garden has access to a large network of project partners, organizations and specialists with expertise and knowledge in specific areas concerning food systems.
Food systems
To improve food security in a certain region, the whole value chain of food production must be taken into consideration, starting from basics like farming knowledge, water, seeds and fertilizer on to the production, the processing and selling of the produced goods.
Vocational training
Looking at entire food systems helps to identify areas where local solutions can be implemented, opening opportunities to train local people in various skills. We strive to set up local training possibilities for quality vocational training.
Entrepreneurship
Our partners have to become self-sustaining in what they do. Entrepreneurship skills are vital for them to be successful in a long run. These skills help them to understand their customers, to see new opportunities and to market and sell their produce.
Structure
We are building a partnership structure that connects the local level to a regional, national and global level. The goal is to give the best support on a local level, to help our partners to become more independent on a national level, but also to learn from one another on a global level.
The tools that we can contribute to work towards this overwhelmingly huge goal are:
Farming technologies and methods
Global Food Garden has experience in water-saving vegetable cultivation independent of soil quality and rainy seasons (hydroponics and aquaponics).
Smart Sustainable Farming online courses
Our recurring online course offers a 6-12 months training about water saving methods in vegetable cultivation, farming principles, entrepreneurship, food processing, business growth and how to pass on the acquired knowledge to new network partners.
Training hubs
Training hubs combine innovative technologies, knowledge and experience from different areas of food systems. In addition to conducting applied research, they train people in the various food professions, adapted to the respective country. We support our local partners by empowering them to start and build their training centres, so that local people can start profiting from their service and become entrepreneurs themselves.
Coaching and mentoring
We work with our local partners to see them grow and being empowered to bring sustainable change to their communities.
Project management and business development
We assist our local partners with project management and business skill development, helping them to become successful leaders and champions of Local, Regional and National Food Gardens, while we connect them on the Global Food Garden level.
